The chief executive of troubled Wolverhampton MBC is in discussion with his leader about stepping down on health grounds, following a turbulent four years in post during which the council has imposed swingeing budget cuts.

Council leader Roger Lawrence said: ‘Our chief executive Simon Warren has been having medical tests for a heart condition and is currently waiting for the results.
