HEALTH MJ: Is the NHS becoming more efficient?

The latest figures show NHS productivity has recently improved due to greater efficiencies. Michael Burton dips into the statistics

Health productivity is on the increase despite – or perhaps because of – spending pressures as well as efficiency measures according to latest figures from the Office for National Statistics (ONS).

The annual average growth rate of public service healthcare productivity from 1996 to 2013 was 0.8% per year compared with the previously published annual average growth for 1996 to 2012 of 0.7%.
