A £117m upgrade to the Scottish NHS’s urgent-care call-handling and IT system has been ditched only 10 days after its launch, due to major technical issues that could have affected patient safety.

The ‘Future Programme' upgrade to NHS 24 systems – the Scottish equivalent of the NHS 111 service – was taken down after managers failed to resolve technical problems with the system.
