What a difference a year makes. This time last February, then health secretary Andrew Lansley, was shunting the political and policy car crash, which was the health and social care Bill, through report stage.

What should have been a straightforward, if sizeable shift in power and responsibility, was seized upon by the medical profession and other opponents as the biggest reorganisation in the 63-year history of the NHS.
