The heat is on

With more heat networks being created, it will be important for local authorities and other public bodies to agree upfront what type of joint working vehicle they want, writes Chris Jarman.

Local authorities are playing a central role in what could be the start of a revolution in heating across the UK.

Investment capital is now going into new heat networks – which means that an increasing number of homes, businesses and public buildings will get their heat from a central source via a network of pipes carrying hot water.

The industry says it'll mean cheaper, more efficient and reliable energy - and will create new jobs. But critics are worried that businesses and consumers could end up paying more.
