Why early help services are essential

A pioneering improvement plan and focus on early intervention earned Torbay’s children’s services a ‘Good’ judgment from Ofsted. The next stage of the journey will include taking part in the Government’s family hubs pilot, says Nancy Meehan.

In the wake of the disparity gaps exposed during the pandemic, and as the nation moves deeper into the cost of living crisis, the focus on closing these gaps among children, young people and families, has grown rapidly in significance.

Like all coastal towns that rely on tourism, stunningly beautiful as they may be, Torbay has high seasonal unemployment, a large transient population, and the lowest wages in the South West.
