Homelessness advice requests rocket under new law

More than half of district councils have reported an increase in requests for homelessness advice in the first six months since new legislation, a survey has found.

More than half of district councils have reported an increase in requests for homelessness advice in the first six months since new legislation, a survey has found.

Some councils said they had been hit by an increase in advice requests of more than 100% since April, when local authorities were given the duty to assess the housing and support needs of every client who is homeless or threatened with homelessness.
