High hopes for the new communities secretary

The biggest change for local government will be the tone of Greg Clark's tenure as secretary of state– a shift to a secretary who works with the sector, not against it, writes Heather Jameson.

As communities secretary Eric Pickles hands over the baton to Greg Clark, he leaves a very different local government landscape to the one he inherited five years ago. After 40% cuts, the sector has had to get a bit more creative about where it goes from here.

So let's welcome Mr Clark to the new post. He is no stranger to local government, having served in the DCLG from the very start of the last Parliament as decentralisation minister.
