Local government minister Kris Hopkins has backed a new report, which claims councils could save up to £10bn a year by sharing data and phasing out costly IT systems.

Local government minister Kris Hopkins has backed a new report, which claims councils could save up to £10bn a year by sharing data and phasing out costly IT systems.

The report by the think-tank Policy Exchange was published today and claims the sharing of data could help reveal where it might be beneficial for local authorities to merge services.
