It is always frustrating for local politicians to find all their hard work ignored in local elections when voters make their decision based on national issues. The local polls in a fortnight's time however, look to be different, while the national picture is vastly made complicated by Brexit which cuts through traditional party loyalties.

The Conservatives certainly have their work cut out trying to explain away the polls so far for elections in the 32 London boroughs, the first since 2014. Labour has been predicted to do well, supposedly because voters in the capital, who are majority Remainers want to punish the Government for backing Brexit even though Labour is hopelessly split on the subject and their leader is a Eurosceptic.
