Prime Minister Theresa May's announcement surrounding the £2bn long-term funding for social housing divided opinion within the sector. Some were positive, but many more cynical about what they thought were smoke and mirrors.
While the news is welcome, it is a shame when there are other simpler solutions that would have an immediate impact. For example, allowing councils to keep the money from the sale of their assets recorded on their balance sheets would produce results for more than a million people trying to find a home to rent at a price they can afford.
