Mike Brogan explains how £300m dedicated investment fund announced last week could deliver around 15,000 homes and knock-on business benefits across Greater Manchester over a decade.

Last Monday, it was announced by George Osborne that Greater Manchester is to have an elected Mayor by 2017 – a direct reflection of the Government's goal to create a ‘northern powerhouse' through the encouragement of growth in the region.

A wide range of powers will be bestowed upon the successful candidate, including responsibility for a £500m skills budget, land development, transport and very importantly, a £300m housing budget.
