Housing Bill 'a threat to local decision-making'

A former local government minister has described the Housing and Planning Bill as one of the most ‘centralising and anti-council’ pieces of legislation he has ever seen, as MPs debate the issue.

A former local government minister has described the Housing and Planning Bill as one of the most ‘centralising and anti-council' pieces of legislation he has ever seen, as MPs debate the issue.

In a letter to council leaders, shadow housing minister John Healey said the proposed law will give the communities secretary 32 new powers, including the ability to directly set rents for ‘high income tenants'.
