Long-term youth unemployment has increased by almost one-quarter since the coalition came to power, fresh analysis of official employment figures indicates.

The North West has been the hardest-hit region, having experienced a 26,000 rise in the number of 16 to 24-year-olds out of work for six months or longer – a 53% increase.
