Hybrid working is here to stay

The end of the nine-to-five routine is driven by economic forces, not the indolent public sector workers of Jacob Rees-Mogg’s imagination, says Michael Burton.

Clearly, no one has yet told Jacob Rees-Mogg that in local government there is a recruitment and retention crisis.

The so-called efficiency minister, often dubbed the Hon Member for the 18th century, believes that civil servants and by implication the rest of the public sector, should return to a nine-to-five routine now the pandemic is past its peak.
