Better idea to cut regulatory burden

The Cabinet Office has launched a new bid to reduce local authority regulatory burdens by creating a Local Better Regulation Office, and is seeking staff to run it.
Ministers are looking for a chief executive on up to £90,000, and six to eight part-time board members on up to £25,000.
Cabinet Office minister, Hilary Armstrong, said the LBRO, which will be operational at the end of this year, would reduce inconsistencies between enforcement in different local authority areas.
It will also issue guidance to council regulatory services and advise the Government about how they are working. Writing in Ms Armstrong said: ‘Local authorities carry out 80% of inspections on businesses. We must be tough on the rogue traders but take a lighter touch approach with everyone else.'
