IDeA's healthy communities plan gets government backing

Health secretary Alan Johnson has backed the IDeA's healthy communities campaign.

Launching the Progress and Next Steps guidance at the Institute for Public Policy Research on Monday (9 June 2008), the minister announced £34m would be spent on funding programmes to develop local communities, tackle health inequalities and help those most deprived in England.
An IDeA spokesman said: ‘Local government is responsible for many of the services which can address the root causes of health inequalities and prevent ill health before it develops.'
