IFS: Councils should channel reserves into transformation

The head of devolved and local government finance at the Institute of Fiscal Studies (IFS) has suggested council consider channelling more reserves into service transformation.

The head of devolved and local government finance at the Institute of Fiscal Studies (IFS) has suggested council consider channelling more reserves into service transformation.

In an article for The MJ, as the IFS published several reports ahead of the new Government's first Budget, David Phillips said ‘around a £40bn top-up to planned departmental spending in 2028-29 would be needed to avoid having to make cuts to certain services and investments'.
