All three main political parties could meet their fiscal targets without making spending cutbacks as steep as are implied by last December's Autumn Statement, public finance experts have forecast.

The claim was made by the influential Institute for Fiscal Studies (IFS) think-tank in its Green Budget – which outlined the key scenarios for George Osborne's fifth successive Budget as chancellor next month.
