The Home Office has agreed to pay almost £2m in back payments to Croydon LBC for looking after unaccompanied asylum-seeker children.

The Whitehall department had faced the prospect of legal action by the London borough over the unpaid funding, which was owed by the UK Border Agency (UKBA).
