The Institute for Fiscal Studies' (IFS) briefing on the Autumn Statement was appropriately held just off of Tottenham Court Road, in premises close to where General Eisenhower's London bunker was located during the Second World War.

IFS director, Paul Johnson noted in his opening remarks that this year's statement resembled nothing less than a ‘mini-Budget'. ‘And not all that "mini" either,' Mr Johnson said.
