Importance of '85-year rule' played down as strikes loom

Council chief executives have played down the importance of the 85-year rule in the run-up to local government union strikes, due to take place next week.

The strikes have been called in protest over government proposals to scrap the Local Government Pension Scheme, but the Association of Local Authority Chief Executives (ALACE) has stated the focus on the 85-year rule is ‘ironic'.
