'Improve street conditions' to prevent falls says WRVS

Councils should improve streetlighting and pavement standards to help reduce the numbers of elderly people too scared to leave their homes for fear of falling, a survey has revealed.

Research produced by the WRVS charity indicated that 225,000 people aged over 75 refused to leave their houses independently because they had lost their confidence and sense of independence when they fell.
