Local authorities in Northern Ireland have shown marked improvements in local recycling and waste-to-landfill levels, new figures have revealed.

The provisional Northern Ireland collected municipal waste management statistics for the final quarter of 2012 were published on 20 April. They show more than 61% of local authority collected municipal waste was sent to landfill, an improvement of 6% compared with the same period the previous year.
