Improving flood resilience together

Giles Stevens says the National Infrastructure Commission is awaiting details of how the national indicators to monitor flooding trends being developed by the Government will work in practice. Avoiding the challenges is not an option, he adds.

The striking images from across the UK in recent months – from Dalmuir to Didsbury – offer an unwelcome glimpse of the future for which we need to prepare. Flooding may no longer be an exceptional event.

Areas that previously would never have had to consider the prospect are now increasingly needing to consider the potential for future flooding events.
