Improving scrutiny in the public and private sector

Local scrutiny can build local coalitions of concern, says Paul Wheeler.

I was pleased to attend the recent 10th anniversary of the Centre for Public Scrutiny. Back then, I played a small part in its creation (I helped find the money).

Looking back over the last 10 years, two trends are apparent: firstly, that the powerful have become more powerful. Utility companies and the train operators have followed the banks in their shameless attitude to public opinion and a disregard to issues like executive pay.
