The incompatibility of the NHS and local government

Martin Reeves says it is difficult to deny the differences that have characterised both sectors in the past, but a powerful revolution is coming.

East is east and west is west and never the twain shall meet. It is fair to say that we often appear to speak a different language; inhabit different planets and have diverging histories. We continue to have different paymasters and our locus of control and accountability remains vastly different.

The way in which we are perceived and trusted varies enormously and, above all, the professional approaches we adopt can often feel totally incompatible.
