Inquiry into Baby P's death must scrutinise all agencies

The inquiry into Baby P's death must scrutinise all agencies involved, according to directors of children's services.

The inquiry into Baby P's death should involve all the agencies involved in the case, according to directors of children's services.

The president of The Association of Directors of Children's Services Maggie Atkinson has said the multi-agency approach being taken in the inspection ‘reflects the involvement of a number of agencies in the case itself.'

She is confident the inquiry will ‘assess the progress' that has been made at Haringey LBC since Lord Laming's recommendations on child protection were published.

She said: ‘We look forward to working constructively with Lord Laming to assess the progress that has been made in recent years following his recommendations on child protection.

'The inspection of services in Haringey will reveal whether or not there were processes that could have been improved to help Child P before his tragic death.'

She added: ‘We welcome the multi-agency approach to the inspection, and the involvement of a well-respected director of children's services, to reflect the involvement of a number of agencies in the case itself.'

The report by Lord Laming will be ready early in 2009.
