The former head of regulatory body LACORS has warned that inspection teams have faced a 'higher proportion' of cuts compared to other services, as the controversy over horsemeat continues.

Local government consultant Derek Allen said the Government has favoured less regulation, inspection and intervention over recent years in the food industry, which has resulted in a decrease in funding for the Food Standards Agency (FSA).
