The Planning Inspectorate has begun a consultation on a proposal to stop publishing annual staff diversity statistics despite concerns about the representativeness of its workforce.

According to the latest statistics, only 6% of the inspectorate's staff identify as being from an ethnic minority background - considerably below the civil service average of 15% - while its overall disability rate of 8% is below the Whitehall rate of 14%.
