Instagram leads to investment in our cities

Urban leaders need to better understand their online brand, as cities with fewer mentions across social media and online news tend to attract less investment, says Cllr John Merry.

The online visibility of our cities will play a crucial role in the recovery of the UK. This can be for attracting inward investment, or tourists, or students looking to study or even encouraging residents to return to city centre life. Our cities will need a strong and clear online presence and brand to make this a success.

If you're like me, you probably hadn't considered this in much detail until recently. That all changed at the start of the pandemic, when nearly every aspect of our lives, including working from home, to seeing friends and family, to even our grocery shopping, effectively switched to the digital world.
