The LGA has backed calls from the Association of British Insurers (ABI) for urgent action to prevent a repeat of this summer's floods.
LGA environment board chairman, Cllr Paul Bettison, welcomed the ABI's calls, and said: ‘Action now to improve our drainage systems and upgrade our flood defences will prevent greater damage and higher costs in the future.'
Floods recovery minister, John Healey, praised local heroes at a Lancaster House reception.
He said: ‘It was a real honour to meet so many everyday heroes, and hear their stories. This was a fitting tribute as well as an opportunity to thank them.'
