ADULT SOCIAL CARE

Investing to save in Havering

Havering LBC came third in the iMPOWER list of the top councils for providing adult social care. Barbara Nicholls says an ‘invest to save’ model has reduced demand for long-term services.

At Havering LBC we have focused on personalisation and prevention. Personalisation in Havering means putting the individual at the centre of the process, choosing the support they need and having control over their life, while prevention allows adults to have access to a range of support that helps residents maintain their independence and prevents or delays the need for ongoing support.

The focus on these two areas has given the council the opportunity to improve outcomes for our residents while also meeting the budgetary pressures faced by councils across the country.
