IRRV warns against relief payout

The national body for local taxation professionals has advised councils not to pay out any claims for backdated business rates relief from NHS trusts.

The national body for local taxation professionals has advised councils not to pay out any claims for backdated business rates relief from NHS trusts.

Advice was issued by the Institute of Revenues Rating and Valuation (IRRV) after it emerged that local government could be hit with a bill of up to £1.5bn from NHS trusts claiming they are entitled to mandatory rate relief because of their status as charities.
