Jobs go but wage bill continues to increase

LGA figures have revealed that councils have lost 15,000 jobs in the last two years, while wage bills have continued to rise, before inflation.

Figures from the LGA have revealed that councils have lost 15,000 jobs in the last two years, while wage bills have continued to rise, before inflation.

The information was released over the bank holiday weekend, and showed that the total pay bill for mainstream local government workers was £26.4bn in 2010/11, an increase of 1.2% compared with 2008/9.
