Journey without a map

Labour's acceptance of Coalition public spending figures belies fact there is not time or breathing space to plan next Spending Review.

After a week spent digging the entrails of the combined European and local elections, an army of expert pollsters and psephologists can only agree that the result of the next General Election is far too uncertain to call.

Casting our minds back, the 2010 General Election was widely seen as a hospital pass.  Analysts suggested any victory would be Pyrrhic, such would be the unpopularity from enforcing austerity spending measures - an inevitable fallout from the 2008 financial crisis and wider Eurozone fears.
