Keeping early on the agenda

Phil Neal joins senior leaders in children’s services to look at how early help and proactive innovation can be driven forward for children and families

The Early Intervention Foundation has called for a commitment from the next government to set targets for spending on early help and to strengthen the move towards tackling the root causes of social deprivation.

According to a report published by the foundation, late intervention is not only less effective than proactive support, it is more expensive, with local authorities carrying costs in the region of £6.5bn.
