Keeping youngsters away from the edge

The Edge of Care programme is breaking the cycle of children and young people becoming looked-after. Anne Stoker describes the key aspects of the approach.

As any local authority will attest, it's incredibly difficult to break the repeated pattern of children and young people entering statutory care and becoming looked-after. For some young people, absolutely, being looked after outside of their family is the safest place for them to be. But for many, it is possible to positively interrupt that cycle by working intensively and therapeutically with children and their families.

This is exactly what we have been able to do in Enfield LBC with the support of children's social work consultancy, Innovate Services.
