Five key principles for drug harm reduction in Sandwell

Sandwell MBC is reversing the numbers of drug-related deaths through cost-effective investment, reducing demand on criminal justice systems and the NHS and returning people back into education and employment, says Dr Lisa McNally.

When Elton walked out of prison in April, he immediately faced a choice. One option was to call his dealer and start reusing the drugs that had blighted his life for so long. The other was to accept the addiction treatment and support we could offer here in Sandwell.

Fortunately, we beat the dealer and got in first. On leaving prison Elton already had a prescription in his hand to cover the weekend and an appointment with a support worker on the Monday.
