Kier has announced a 17% increase in pre-tax profits as its staff help build new homes for military veterans as part as of the hit television programme DIY SOS.

The local government contractor's preliminary results for the 12 months to 30 June showed Kier made £85.9m in underlying pre-tax profits, compared to £73.7m the previous year.
