Kingston RLBC to pioneer councillor powers of recall

Residents of Kingston RLBC could be given powers of recall to vote out councillors who breach local standards codes.

Residents of Kingston RLBC would be given powers of recall to vote-out councillors who have breached local standards codes, it has been announced today.

The south west London borough has announced the proposal as part of wider constitutional reforms aimed at improving engagement with local people.

Leader of Kingston RLBC, Cllr Kevin Davis, said councillors needed to connect with local people better than ever before, amid a time of massive challenges, and the measures were designed to win greater public trust.
