Labour would adopt 'local by default' approach

A Labour government would strike a ‘new settlement between citizens and the state’ and adopt a ‘local by default’ approach, shadow communities secretary Steve Reed has pledged.

A Labour government would strike a ‘new settlement between citizens and the state' and adopt a ‘local by default' approach, shadow communities secretary Steve Reed has pledged.

Speaking at Solace's virtual conference today, Mr Reed said centralising of the likes of shielding and track and trace had failed, and he wanted to ‘get power out of Whitehall' because this would lead to better decision-making.
