Labour is set for sweeping seat losses in the 3 May mid-term elections marathon.
There have been just two contests so far in April, but they make grim reading for the party ahead of the last major voting test of the Blair era.
Plaid Cymru scored an 8.1% swing since 2004 to gain at Aberaman South, Rhondda Cynon Taf CBC. This was a disappointment for Labour after South Wales results in March suggested it might at least hold the line in the Welsh Assembly election.
The only other by-election this month saw Labour tumble more than 13.9% since 2005 general election day at Worcestershire CC's St Chads division. The seat was held by the separate Liberal Party in a poll caused by the death of Mike Oborski, a leading councillor and a former senior Liberal Democrat. This month:
So far this year, Liberal Democrats have a two-seat net gain in by-elections. Labour has lost two overall.
