A call to fight for the director of children's services role amid an increasing trend towards creating a single director of people has been downplayed by chief executive's association, SOLACE.

Vice-president-elect of the Association of Directors of Children's Services (ADCS), Dave Hill, who is executive director for people commissioning at Essex CC, last week warned DCSs faced a fight to protect their role, 10 years after its creation.
