'Lack of evidence' leaves Hull's accounts hanging in the balance

A district auditor has issued a qualified opinion on accounts for Hull City Council because he could not get the information he required.

Michael Newbury issued the qualified opinion for the 2004/5 accounts after he could not get enough evidence to decide whether or not the accounts reflected the council's financial situation. Hull City Council's director of finance, Michael Hudson, said there was no error in the overall figures, or any questions about the misuse of funds.
