Healthcare bosses have disputed health secretary Andrew Lansley's claims last week that 22 trusts are on the brink of financial collapse, because of PFI deals.

The health secretary said he had been contacted by the trusts, which had been landed with ‘PFI deals they simply cannot afford', but Opposition politicians and health leaders poured cold water on these claims.
