Council bosses have warned new limits on food hygiene visits could put the public at risk from dodgy restaurants and poorly prepared takeaways.

The Local Government Association (LGA) has claimed environmental health officers will no longer be able to make on-the-spot hygiene checks once the Protection of Freedoms Bill, which is currently going through Parliament, becomes law.
