A regional investment bank or a sovereign wealth fund for the West Midlands is among the ideas being considered by Birmingham City Council's new leader.

Cllr John Clancy, who has previously written a book about how money in local government pension funds could be ploughed back as investment into the UK's regions, is understood to have recently attended a number of Whitehall meetings to discuss his ideas.
