League tables create a heightened sense of interest in performance which can only be helpful for local authorities, writes Dan Corry

Roy Hodgson is currently fixated on league tables – especially the one containing just four teams, so he has to make sure he gets England up high enough to get into the next round of the World Cup.

The country awaits, working out every permutation possible. If we draw 0-0 in the Amazon with Italy and lose to Uruguay (as Suarez gets a dodgy penalty for diving), can we go through with a win over Costa Rica?
