Local enterprise partnerships (LEPs), the 38 private sector-led partnerships between businesses and local authorities, were established in 2011 to drive economic growth in local areas. From their start, their role, purpose and governance have been developing and changing.
There has been continued parliamentary interest from the Public Accounts Committee so we recently explained how the role and remit of LEPs has changed since we last reported in 2016 – how well the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG) and LEPs have managed to strengthen governance, assurance and transparency, and what we know about their future funding.
